Ah, the story of the cat hater. We have heard many of those. People keep telling us that they hate cats, but we know the truth… We, real cat people, know that they simply have not met the right cat yet. Yes, it is that simple. Cats can win anyone over. We have seen it time and time again. We've seen dads who've hated cats their whole lives suddenly get adopted by a cat and fall in love with them. We have seen moms who hated cats fall in love with a single-braincelled orange kitten who stopped at absolutely nothing to make that happen. We've seen a boyfriend who hated cats go out of his way to save their girlfriend's cat when it got stuck in a cupboard, therefore forever losing his cat hater card. 

And today, another story. A girlfriend who hated cats - truly and honestly hated them - was won over. And all it took was the cat showing her a little real affection at a time when she needed it. Yes, it really is that easy.

  • It really is true that all it takes is just one cat. Everyone believes the stereotypes (for some unclear reason) until they see the stereotypes being broken themselves. Cats care, and they show us affection all the time. It's up to us to see it.

    So, I started living with my boyfriend and his kitty cat, Kat, in July of last year. I grew up with dogs and never understood the appeal of cats. To me, they seemed like selfish, vile creatures that owned people rather than being owned by them.

    She walked over to me, walked across my lap and started purring in my ear and reaching her paw out to me. It's as if she was LITERALLY reaching out to me. I reached out to pet her as she nudged her head into my hand. It was so confronting and I felt like I was FINALLY feeling all the love that I had been missing.

    Cats truly are intelligent and intuitive creatures that understand far more than we give them credit for. I feel so at peace with her. I know I may get sh for this post, but I still wanted to share. It feels so wholesome and I can't even begin to describe the happiness it brought me! :)

  • Look, we don't know what is going on between you and your boyfriend, but the cat has clearly chosen you, so you know what? We are deciding to stay positive this time. We tend to believe cats, and if your boyfriend's cat came to you in this time of need, then maybe the cat knows something that they boyfriend doesn't… yet.

    mapleleafeevee Cats purr for multiple reasons and one is to help with healing/help when they are sick or hurt. The cat may be trying to help you feel better by purring on you. I'm glad you're finally able to bond with her

    TheFlawless Flaw23 People underestimate animals and think they're stupid and could never understand anything. I had an experience like this with my dog and it made it very clear that pets have exactly the same emotions as us and will always be willing to comfort us when we need it because we always comfort them when they need it.

    I thought that was odd, but looking back I realized he knew I was pregnant before I did. He continued to lay by my side and would feel my son kick when I was further along in my pregnancy. Now my son is 5 and this same cat comes to his room when we start bedtime stories and he lays right on top of my son. Their bond is just beautiful.
